toddler arithmetic

This morning we thought it would be fun to ask Maya a few questions:
"If Leo has 2 cornflakes and Dad has 3 cornflakes and we give them to you, how many will you have?"
"I don't want cornflakes!"

Things were going along those lines when Maya asked a question of her own:
"If I have a piece of cake and I take away the piece of cake, how many pieces of cake do I have now?"
Dad guessed none.
"Wrong! I still have a piece of cake, look:"
She showed me her cake, then she took it away and hid it behind her back and then she brought it back out and showed it to me again!

To be fair, she did make her parents quite proud with one of the answers:
"If Maya has five cakes and gives one to Leo and one to Dad, how many are left?"
She quickly answered "Three" but looked as if she was not too impressed by such a question!
